Engaging Children in Worship

We offer Sunday School beginning at 9am every Sunday, and then children from Pre-K to 5th grade are invited to join us at Grace Space at the Altar. This ministry provides a special place within the sanctuary for our little learners to sit together (right up front) and do crafts and quiet activities. They are invited up for a children's sermon at a designated time every Sunday and are supervised by a wonderful team of volunteers.


This allows children to learn about the worship service and engage with relevant activities that enrich their faith and help them feel included, but it also gives parents a bit of support during the service so they are able to be more fully engaged as well.

We aim to nurture children's faith by:

- Engaging them in worship via a children's sermon and interactive materials that relate to our sermon topic

- Inviting them to serve as liturgists, acolytes, and ushers

- Providing small group instruction and mentorship opportunities

- Hosting Christian camps and special events throughout the year

SAFETY

Our Wheeler Kids teachers and volunteers uphold the standards of our Safer Sanctuaries Training, which aims to prevent child abuse by ensuring there are always multiple responsible adults present when children are around. FUN

SPACE

Our Grace Space area of the Sanctuary is made up of child-sized seats and tables and shelves stocked with coloring supplies, quiet toys, and activities that relate to our Scripture readings and sermon topic. This allows children to move, fidget, and create while they learn. You will often see our Grace Space kiddos waving streamers during worship or helping with aspects of the service.

Vacation Bible School

We host a 4 day long evening VBS every summer for children from Pre-K to 5th grade.

Camp in the Community

CITC is a FREE weekday camp for school age students hosted at Wheeler in connection with the Holston Conference Camp and Retreat Ministries.

Seasonal Gatherings

From our back-to-school breakfast to trunk-or-treat to the Easter Party, Wheeler LOVES to celebrate with our children!

Quarterly Lunch with the pastor

Every few months, we host a lunch after church for our Wheeler Kids so that parents can take a lunch date while their students stay with us to eat and learn!

Wheeler takes our Children's Ministry very seriously, and we host events throughout the year that are aimed to include families with children of all ages.
